Abstract
This study was carried out to elucidate the present status of parasite infections in a remote village Onamri, situated along the upper Kumgang-river, Chongyanggun, Chungchongnamdo, in 1973. Most of the inhabitants in this area were occupied by farmers of lower economic and poor sanitary conditions.
In July, 203 of fecal specimens were collected among total 731 inhabitants and examined at fresh condition by direct smear method. Intradermal tests with VBS antigens of Clonorchis sinensis and Paragonimus westermani to 174 people. In December another survey was undertaken by scotch tape anal swab technique in 152 for the incidence of Enterobius vermicularis. The results are summarized as follows:
1. Of 203 fecal specimens, 117(57.6%) were positive for intestinal parasites. No appreciable sex difference was observed. The highest distribution (75. 8%) was demonstrated in the group of aging 5-9.
2. As to the species of parasites detected, positive rates revealed each; A. lumbricoides 48.8%, T. trichiurus 15.8%, hookworm 2.0%, T. orientalis 0.9%, Taenia sp. 2.0% and P. westermani 0. 5%.
3. Single infection of intestinal parasite was as high as 80.3% and double and triple infections were 18. 0% and 1.7%, respectively.
4. Among 152 scotch tape anal swabs examined, 71(46.7%) showed positive for E. vermiularis.
5. Among 174 people examined by intradermal tests, 8.1% and 12.7% were positives to clonorchis and paragonimus antigens respectively. The highest positive rates were observed in the groups of aging_ over 50. Five out of the 22 skin positive cases were the active paragonimiasis.
